World Medical Fund.
A high energy five minute clip showing the beauty of Malawi and its people, and telling the story of Dr Dezi who works for the World Medical Fund in the Nkhotakota area in Malawi.
The World Medical Fund is a children’s charity doing work in the remote areas of Malawi, taking much needed medical services to the people who live miles away from the government hospitals.
The music is a mixed tape of a group called ‘The Very Best’, for which the singer, Esau Mwamwaya is Malawian, and singing in Chichewa.
The UK’s National Centre for Domestic Violence (NCDV) launched an interactive billboard campaign at Euston Station to show people their interventions can help stop domestic violence. How it works: on an e-motion screen above you, a man’s in the middle of violently reaming a woman. You can “drag him away” by visiting a subsite on your mobile and then swiping him across the screen with your finger.
Once that happens, the man, still screaming, slides across several screens above you in Euston Station, and a tagline lets users know that injunctions can give victims plenty of space away from their abusers.
Getting people to respond when they’re aware of local abuse is one of the toughest things to do — most, like children, just want to mind their business and not get into trouble. But if it’s as easy as a swipe in the dark to potentially save a person’s life, why not?
The general hope behind this campaign is that it’ll start triggering a habit of, you know, dragging the abuser away, but of course it’s easier to do that for a campaign in a crowded station than it is when you’re home alone and watching the walls shake. In any case, an okay effort by JWT London.
Hashtags are an easy way to research and fish for useful information on Twitter. As a non-profit, here are a few you should be following:
#nonprofit – This is a pretty broad and fast paced tweet stream that gives tweeters a general understand of what is going on in today’s nonprofit world.
#fundraising – This hashtag includes anything from traditional, political, and online fundraising to social media fundraising best practices. This is also a great place for industry news and trends.
#nptech – This hashtag stands for “nonprofit technology”. From new online fundraising platforms, nonprofit social media, digital marketing, to microcredit loans, this hashtag helps bring together conversation around the way technology impacts how we give back.
#sm4np – This hashtag stands for “social media for nonprofits”. From new sites like Pinterest to optimizing Facebook posts, this hashtag helps leverage the wisdom of the crowds in regards to nonprofit social media.
#philanthropy – Though a little different from the previous hashtags, #philanthropy gives us a look at the other side of charity. From corporations to wealthy individuals to political enthusiasts, understanding where large, charitable contributions are going is a great way to review giving trends.
#donors – This hashtag is generally specific to donations. This means content surrounding the giving and receiving of donations. These are interesting perspectives that help give an individual a fuller perspective on the world of giving. Though we personally would like to see more fundraisers than donors, we can’t afford to overlook these important contributors.
